2010 Worlds Mod Contest

1st Place: Bistocracy

The 2010 Worlds Mod contest marked the 10th anniversary of the Mod Contest at Worlds. Without question, this year’s entries as a group were the strongest, most creative, most fun collection of mods we’ve had the pleasure to judge. Speaking of judging, I’d like to say thanks to Dazzling Dave, Kyle Weems, Rob Tsou, Bill DeBoisblanc, and Frank Difeo, for being this year’s panel of judges.

Eric has set up a photo album on Fotki where you can view all of the entries, posted in order of where they finished.

The scores are listed below, but here are some highlights:

Taking first place was Ettore Ferro (“Mr. BIST”) with a technical tour de force called “Bistocracy”, a FHZ mod full of exotic alloy parts and paying homage to one of Ducati’s superbikes. Ettore won best mod last year and he has quickly established himself as one of the best modders in the world.

In 2nd place was Tetsuya Hoshino with “Breakshot”, an 8 Ball (yep, a billiard ball) that transformed into a 1A yo-yo. This unique entry had the judges mighty impressed (and giggling and grinning); a true “Transformer” yo-yo.

In third was long time Mod contest participant Landon Balk, with an hourglass yo-yo……yep, it’s an actual hourglass, sand runs from one half to the other through the hollow axle assembly. Made of acrylic, polished crystal clear, and it play beautifully too.

4th was newcomer Ron Magoon with “Freedom”, a stunning Vera wood creation with a modern axle design.

And, rounding out the top five was none other than Takeshi with the “Imperialistic FHZ”, another entry that made the judges smile.
